After winning the 25k Grant from the Vimeo Awards, Director Eliot Rausch partnered with Producer Mark Schwartz and the Dreamers of Los Angeles to create LIMBO. This 19 minute film exposes the lives of 3 undocumented students, living in the US without legal status. Never having touched a camera, the 3 students were gifted with a small handycam and trained for half a day by Lukas Korver and Matt B. Taylor. They were asked to film everyday for 3 months. Through their lens, this is their story.

I realized today over breakfast with Dan Fisher, that I’ve got zero hobbies. There is nothing that I do in my free time. I work, then come home and usually mess around online or watch tv or something.

I also remembered that just a few years ago I used to care about things, and be really into lots of different stuff. I was watching Landon work in his garden, and remembered when Bill and I built one a few years ago when we first moved downtown and how into it we were (for a few months, anyway). I also used to be really into causes, like vegetarianism, and was a member of a few liberal BS groups in college.

So I’ve decided to use this summer to pick up some hobbies, start doing more stuff, and start being an actual human being. I’d like to do some volunteer work somewhere, do some good. I think I’m going to pick up a new instrument (banjo), probably start dedicating myself to being vegetarian again, and just eating better in general, and try and limit myself to 2 hours of internet time (outside of work) a day. I think I’ll be healthier, physically and emotionally, and be actually happy.

Any other ideas on good hobbies to pick up?

You don’t have a job, you think that finding a full-time job is everything, and that things will be better once you have that job and steady income.

This weekend is a lot like the movie weekend at Bernie’s for me. Only instead of Bernie’s, I’m at work all weekend. And nobody’s dead, but I sort of wish I was. And it’s also not really funny at all.
